How often do you think of the weather around you? Not often until and unless it gets tremendously bad or something disastrous strikes you. However, the history of weather broadcasting is long enough and it draws a line to 650 B.C. when the Babylonians first tried their hands at it, based on the position and movement of the clouds and using an optical phenomenon popularly known as the haloes. However, time progressed and by it was 300 BC, the Chinese astronomers have already come up with a calendar that divided the entire year into 24 different festivals which are directly associated with the 24 different weather conditions.
While Jim Byrne started studying about these phenomena one by one, he found Aristotle scripting down Metereologica, a philosophical treatise that had the mention of the different formations like rain, cloud, snow, hail, wind, breeze, thunder, lightning, storms and hurricanes. However, it cannot be denied that some of the theories stated by Aristotle was indeed erroneous and it took for almost ten centuries to throw away a major portion of this concept. But it is true, that had he not scripted them down in his book, the following research work would have been delayed by few more centuries for sure. The wheel of science started rolling since then, and as time passes by, there have been several scientific developments, and multiple presumptions were made to come up with appropriate weather broadcasting. Several new instruments were made, and as the quest of reading the nature increased several new devices were invented that could help human beings read several parameters like moisture, temperature, and pressure.
The occidental civilization and the Renaissance had a great contribution in shaping up the history of weather broadcasting. Everything old was discarded and much more appropriate methods were integrated into the research process to make it more precise and deliver successful results at the end of it. The observational capabilities were given much priority, and according to Jim Byrne , it was the invention of the telegraph machine and networks that actually brought in the revolution of the entire process. The valuable data that could be extracted now were accumulated together and based on the statistical records of changes; observers started noting down figures and their observation.
Globalization has already hit the social history by then, and everything started developing too rapidly. People were mode condensed towards reading a correct change in weather and take the necessary precautions. The history is not just for a few centuries, and hence giving it the due importance is essential.
